چکیده

Background: Microbial keratitis is a sight-threatening disease. Empiric management based on current regional microbial sensitivity patterns. Aim: This study aimed to describe the demographics and patterns of at St John Eye Hospital compare it with data from same centre 10 years prior. Setting: A tertiary eye care in Soweto, South Africa. Methods: retrospective cross-sectional microbiological reports patients treated for between 01 January 2018 31 December 2018. Results: The median age was 42 (interquartile range [IQR]: 3–77) male predominance 57.0% ( n = 65/113). Culture positivity rate 63.0% 84/133). There Gram-positive organisms most common organism coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (CNS) (32.0%, 42/133), Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa (6.0%, 8/133). Other were aureus (14.0%, 18/133), Streptococcus pneumoniae (9.0%, 12/133) viridans (5.0%, 6/133). Commonly used fluoroquinolones ciprofloxacin moxifloxacin had resistance 4.2% 10.0%, respectively. Gentamicin 5.8%. increased compared 2008 52% 63%. an increase 2% 6%. little change antibiotic profiles two periods (2008 2018). Conclusion: has our institution suggests improvements detecting susceptibilities. does not seem be any susceptibilities periods; therefore, empiric remains appropriate.
